Promoting tourism in cross-border Banat
2007-12-20

Until November 2008, the Euroregional Center for Democracy is implementing the `Banat 22, Promotion of Top 22 Tourist Locations and Events in Banat` project, in partnership with Pancevo Municipality, an innitiative funded by the European Union with 111.970,50 EURO through the Neighbourhood Programme Romania - Serbia Phare CBC 2005.

The project will foster the development of tourism industry in Banat as a tool to achieve closer economic and social integration of this cross-border region. 22 locations and tourism events from Romanian and Serbian Banat will be identified and promoted as emblems of regional tourism. Also, the objective is to increase the economic indicators of Banat tourism development by 5%.

Local public authorities, actors and promoters of tourism activities from Banat (Romania and Serbia) will benefit from this innitiative. In this regard, a web portal and a database will be created, containing the main tourism stakeholders from Banat. Two Tourism Information Points will be established in Resita and Drobeta Turnu-Severin, while the Tourism Info Point from Timisoara will be equiped. Workshops (`How to manage a tourism info point?`), PR Campaings (`Promoting hospitality in Banat`, `Mobilizing nationalities from Banat in tourism development) and a public competition to identify top 22 of places and tourism events in Banat will be organized, and a guide for tourism in Banat will be published.
