In May 2008, the Euroregional Center for Democracy (CED) from Timisoara will organize three workshops that aim at facilitating the exchange of know-how among the academic communities from Arad, Cluj and Timisoara university centers. The participants will also gain abilities and will contribute to the implementation of good management procedures for information and consultation processes and management of cultural diversity.
CED invites you to participate in the workshops for accountable governance in higher education, which are scheduled as follows:
·    Transparency in PR and communication, May 8, 2008, 16ºº, Timisoara
We invite professors from West University, Politehnica  University, University of Medicine and Pharmacy ‘Victor Babeş’, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine ‘Banat’ and members of student and youth organisations (with priority persons with PR and communication responsabilities).
The discussions will focus on public relations and communication as instruments of academic governance in accordance with the principles of public accountability. Presentations will be held on transparency standards according to Romanian law and international good practices, and on Law 544/2001 regarding free access to information of public interest and Law 52/2003 on transparency of decision making as useful instruments for the management of public relations, communication and problems within the universities.
·    Management of consultation processes, May 15, 2008, 16ºº, Arad
Interested persons from ‘Aurel Vlaicu’ University and student and youth organisations are invited to participate in this workshop.
The management of consultation processes represents another instrument of academic governance in accordance with the principles of public accountability. The participants will be familiarized with standards of consultation and participation in the decision making according to Romanian law, international best practices and Law 52/2003  regarding the transparency of decision as useful instruments in the management of decision processes.
·    Participatory management and management of cultural diversity, May 29, 2008, 16ºº, Cluj
Invited to participate are representatives of the academic community of ‘Babes-Bolyai’ University (professors, student and youth organisations, etc.).
Considering the multicultural character of the university, the theme of the workshop is participatory management and management of cultural diversity as instruments of academic governance in accordance with the principles of public accountability. Standards of participation and inclusion of minority groups, as they appear in the Romanian law and international good practices, and methods to apply Law 52/2003 regarding transparency of decision in the management of decision processes will be presented.

The workshops are organized within the Accountable governance in higher education: a program to promote principles of good governance in state-funded universities from Arad, Cluj and Timisoara University Centres, implemented with financial support from the European Union through PHARE 2005 Program, Strenghtening Democracy in Romania, Component 2 – Democracy, human rights, the rule of law, independance of justice and fight against corruption. The objective of this initiative is to define and implement in a participatory manner a general pilot framework for accountable, transparent and efficienwt governance in ‘Aurel Vlaicu’ University from Arad, ‘Babes-Bolyai’ University from Cluj, West University, Politehnica  University, University of Medicine and Pharmacy ‘Victor Babeş’ and University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine ‘Banat’ from Timisoara, with a view to the academic decision making processes, including the management of cultural diversity in higher education.

Romanian – Norwegian cooperation for improving accessibility of universities and university libraries in Western Romania
Between 4 and 9 June, 2016, the Euroregional Center for Democracy (CED) made a study visit to Halden and Oslo, Norway, in order to set the ground for a Romanian-Norwegian know-how exchange, in the field of accessibility of universities and university libraries for people with disabilities.

The Euroregional Center for Democracy (CED) from Timisoara, Romania, and the School of Management in Fribourg, Switzerland, are launching a competition to select student organizations or initiative groups to conduct communication/advocacy campaigns in the university campuses of Timisoara.
